Starting school is an exciting time. At Liden Academy we endeavour to give your child the best possible start to their school life. Our Reception classrooms have been designed to facilitate free-flow play, enabling the children to access both the indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day.
Along with our Early Years Lead, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Coe and Mrs Possolo Du Plooy our Reception teachers work closely with our Nursery Leads, to ensure that children have a positive transition from Nursery to Reception. If your child is joining us from another nursery or preschool setting our team will work closely with their current setting to find the best ways to support your child as they start Reception at Liden Academy. To further support the transition we hold new parent meetings, a buddy picnic and transition sessions in the summer term prior to your child starting, and we begin the autumn term with a staggered start so that the children can get used to their new environment and routines.
Early Years is the start of our pupil’s journey to gaining skills, knowledge and a positive attitude to lifelong learning. We understand that it is vital to provide an appropriate topic based curriculum that supports the individual needs of every child, therefore, the curriculum is tailored to enable all children to have a high quality learning experience. We pride ourselves that our curriculum is ambitious, planed and sequenced so that children can develop their unique place in the wider community.
The Early Learning Goals (ELGs) for children at the expected level of development at the end of their Reception year include to following:
- Communication and Language.
- Physical Development.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding of the World.
- Expressive Arts and Design.
